100 Meter Dash
Bridgeport's Isabella Bowen continued Bridgeport's dominance of this event in recent years (2014-2018) by crushing the field by over 0.4 seconds with a 12.67 clocking. Winfield's Molly Wallace pulled away late for 2nd in 13.10. Bridgeport's Anaiya Jackson nipped Frankfort's Kayla Grose for 3rd with both getting a 13.21. One of my predicted placers false started in the trials.
RunWV's Current Score: 5 of 6.

200 Meter Dash
Bridgeport has owned this event as well, also winning it since 2014, and that continued with Isabella Bowen knocking off a strong contingent with a stellar 25.05 time. That time stands as the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. North Marion's Eve Hine was exceptional as well with a 25.39, which is the 10th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Mingo Central's Xziah Rhodes was a strong 3rd in 25.82. Bridgeport's Anaiya Jackson joined them under 26 seconds with a 25.94. Catie Wilson just missed that mark at 26.01, but gave Bridgeport 3 of the top 5 in the event. Shady Spring's Reagan Hefner scored the 6th spot with a 26.53.
RunWV's Current Score: 10 of 12.

400 Meter Dash
Bridgeport's Isabella Bowen got out extremely well and sped to the victory in a superb 56.15. This stands as the 5th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 3rd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Her closest competitor again was North Marion's Eve Hine who closed well to finish in 56.78, which also charts as the 9th Best All-Time State Meet Performance and the 5th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Oak Hill's Tori Mackowiak was a strong 3rd in 58.28. Bridgeport's Catie Wilson was close to her in 4th in 58.56. Weir's Caroline Fodor was also under 60 seconds in 5th in 59.48. One of my predicted placers did not run the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 15 of 18.

800 Meter Run
The field was not aggressive, but at about 250 meters, Lewis County's Emily Louk made a move toward the front from 4th place, and completed the move into the lead at the 300 meter mark of the race. She continued to press and opened a gap on the field by the end of the lap, coming through in 1:10. PikeView's Erin O'Sullivan was in 2nd, about 3 meters back in 1:11. I believe it was North Marion's Hannah Eddy in 3rd with Weir's Caroline Fodor in 4th, Bridgeport's Julia Muller in 5th, and, I believe Oak Hill's Kiya Babkirk in 6th. On the 2nd lap, Louk continued to lead as things heated up behind her. She held her gap through the 1st turn with O'Sullivan opening up just a bit on the field. Winfield's Kalei Jordan moved from 7th to 3rd in the first 50 meters of the 2nd lap. Muller had moved into 4th, followed by Eddy and Fodor. With 200 to go, Louk still had moved to about a 5 meter lead with O'Sullivan about 3 meters ahead of Jordan, who was being closed on by Muller. I believe Fairmont Senior's Mackenzie Stanley had made a move into 5th with Eddy holding 6th at this point. Coming into the final straight, nothing much had changed. Louk was holding that lead, and she was not threatened coming down the stretch, and she took the win by over 2 seconds in 2:22.61. O'Sullivan held onto the 2nd spot in 2:24.75. Jordan held off Muller for 3rd, 2:25.36 to 2:25.71. Eddy battled back into 5th down the stretch to finish in 2:26.94. Winfield's Peyton Fronaphel moved up into the final spot in 2:27.89. My predicted winner scratched from the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 18 of 24.

1600 Meter Run
The first lap saw a large pack run a reasonable opening pace that had pretty much everyone hanging in the pack. I think it was Fairmont Senior's Sophia Tomana in the lead at the end of lap 1 with East Fairmont's Erykah Christopher in 2nd. PikeView's Erin O'Sullivan was in 3rd with Philip Barbour's Kierra Hodge in 4th. Bridgeport's Julia Muller was in 5th, and I think Winfield's Peyton Fronaphel in 6th, all passing in 1:17. The pace slowed on the 2nd lap, and the pack stayed largely together, with really only one falling out of the pack. About 600 meters into the lap, the pack got a little too close together and somehow, Tomana fell to the track and Fronaphel hurdled over her (as well as a couple others further back), and she went from 5th to 15th in a very short span. She got right back up to the back of the pack by the 700 meter mark but then began to drop off again. at the mid-way point, it was O'Sullivan in the lead at 2:42. Christopher was in 2nd, also at 2:42. Muller was in 3rd, also matching that time. Hodge was in 4th and Winfield's Kalei Jordan in 5th at 2:43. Fairmont Senior's Mackenzie Stanley had moved into the 6th spot, also in 2:43. As the pace picked up a bit in lap 3, we finally started to see a little separation, but the contending pack remained pretty large with 9 runners within about 2 meters at the 1000 meter mark of the race. We did have some position shifting, though as Lewis County's Emily Louk moved to the front in 4:05. Muller had moved up to 2nd with Fronaphel in 3rd, O'Sullivan in 4th, Christopher in 5th, and Jordan in 6th, all matching that 4:05 time. Those 6 had opened about a 2 meter gap on the other 3 who had been in contention at 1100 meters. Business really picked up on the final lap. Muller was the first to really start moving with about 300 meters to go, and Fronaphel and Jordan gave chase. With 200 to go, it was Muller, Fronaphel, Jordan, Louk, O'Sullivan, and Christopher. With 150 to go, Muller had pushed the lead out to about 3-4 meters. Then Jordan really started to move, and we had a race down the stretch with Jordan closing to about half a meter before Muller edged back away to win by nearly a second in 5:17.39 to Jordan's 5:18.30. O'Sullivan closed strongly to move back into 3rd in 5:19.98. Fronaphel held the 4th spot in 5:21.82 Christopher moved back up to 5th in 5:23.38. Louk held on for the 6th position in 5:24.79.
RunWV's Current Score: 23 of 30.

3200 Meter Run
A large contingent stayed in contention early with 13 staying in the lead pack for the 1st lap. At the end of one lap, it was Fairmont Senior's Carlina Jacquez in the lead at 1:19. Winfield's Anna Lumadue was in 2nd with Bridgeport's Julia Muller in 3rd. Philip Barbour's Kierra Hodge was in 4th at 1:20 with PikeView's Erin O'Sullivan in 5th and Bridgeport's Elizabeth Deniker in 6th with the same time. On the 2nd lap, the pack started to string out into a long line on the backstretch, but bunched up a bit in the frontstretch with 9 remaining within about 3 meters. Jacquez remained in the lead at 2:46 with Muller in 2nd with the same time. Hodge was in 3rd at 2:47, joined by Fairmont Senior's Maya Brinson, Winfield's Anna Lumadue, and East Fairmont's Erykah Christopher in 4th through 6th, respectively. The pace continued to drift slower on lap 3, and while the length of the pack stretched just a little, there were now 10 there instead of 9. Muller moved into the lead just before the end of the lap. Jacquez held the 2nd spot with Brinson in 3rd, each at 4:16. Hodge, Lumadue, and Christopher held the next 3 spots at 4:17. Lap 4 saw the back of the pack fall off the pace as 5 held pace and opened a gap on the remaining field. At the midway makr, It was Muller with an ever-so-slight lead on Brinson in 5:44. Hodge was about a stride back in 5:45 with Lumadue and Christopher matched that time in 4th and 5th, respectively. Berkeley Springs' Belle Harvey had moved into the 6th spot in 5:50. On lap 5, That front 5 stayed together with the order remaining the same as well: Muller, Brinson, Hodge, Lumadue, Christopher with the 1st four passing in 7:15 and Christopher i 7:16. Harvey continued to hold the 6th spot in 7:24. On lap 6, things started to break up a little. Muller and Brinson were running side-by-side, and Brinson had just a tiny little edge with both coming through in 8:44. Hodge was in 3rd at 8:45. Lumadue held a small advantage over Christopher for 4th with both passig in 8:46. Harvey continued to hold the 6th position at 9:00. On lap 7, the front two dropped the pace down and broke away from 3rd. Brinson moved to the lead with about 475 meters to go and held about a 1 step advantage at the bell with both she and Muller passing in 10:10. Hodge was in 3rd at 10:15 Christopher in 10:16 and Lumadue in 10:18. O'Sullivan had made the pass back into 6th in 10:30. On the final lap, Brinson continued to lead through the 1st turn. Muller went on the attack with about 250 to go and moved into the lead. Christopher had made the pass on Hodge into 3rd. With 200 to go, Muller had started generating a gap, and that gap would grow to the finish line as Muller powered away for the 7 second win in 11:25.25. Brinson easily held the 2nd spot in 11:32.35. Hodge used a strong kick in the final 100 to retake 3rd in 11:38.37. Christopher held the 4th spot in 11:40.90. Lumadue easily held the 5th position in 11:43.52. O'Sullivan ran away for 6th in the final lap to finish in 11:49.40.
RunWV's Current Score: 28 of 36.

100 Meter High Hurdles

Hudson took the 5th position in 48.17. Lewis County's Sarah Post took the final spot in 48.34.
RunWV's Current Score: 38 of 48.

4x100 Meter Relay
Brideport used a strong 2nd leg from Isabella Bowen to take a commanding lead, and the foursome of Anaiya Jackson, Isabella Bowen, Juliet Hart, and Kristen Crowder were never threatened in winning by over a second in 49.97. That time is the 2nd Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. Winfield was an easy 2nd in 51.17. Liberty Harrison got an excellent closing leg from Josie Rhodes to move from 6th to 3rd in 51.98. It was a close battle that saw Lincoln finish 4th in 52.04, and Elkins nip North Marion for 5th 52.08 to 52.09.
RunWV's Current Score: 44 of 54.

4x200 Meter Relay
Bridgeport's squad of Kirstin George, Catie Wilson, Juliet Hart, and Kristen Crowder annihilated the field, taking the win by almost 2.5 seconds. Their 1:45.86 clocking is the 4th Best All-Time Class A-AA State Meet Performance. How much depth does Bridgeport have at the 200? The ladies who finished 1st and 3rd in the open 200 were not on this unit. Oak Glen got a nice close from Maggie Kovalcik to snag the 2nd spot in 1:48.30. Winfield was 3rd in 1:48.64. Elkins took the 4th spot in 1:49.25. No one else was under 1:50, but Lincoln and North Marion were close at 1:50.10 and 1:50.24, respectively.
RunWV's Current Score: 49 of 60.
